Accepted Students Quick Guide

First steps

1. Submit your enrollment deposit
Visit the online payment portal to submit your enrollment deposit, which will hold your spot in the incoming class.

2. Send in your immunization records
The state of Tennessee requires that you be vaccinated for measles, mumps, and rubella (MMR), varicella (chickenpox), and meningitis before entering college. To apply for a medical exemption to this requirement, submit documentation from a healthcare provider. To apply for a religious exemption, provide a statement explaining why immunizations conflict with your religious practice.

3. Check in with the Financial Aid Office
It’s a good idea to touch base with the Financial Aid staff to make sure they have everything they need to complete your file. If anything is missing, you’ll want to take care of it as soon as possible. 

4. Apply for on-campus housing
If you are a freshman, your permanent address is 50 or more miles from campus, and you are under the age of 20, you are required to live on campus the first year. If you are under the age of 26, you also are eligible to apply for housing. Space is limited and on-campus housing is in great demand, so submit your application and pay your housing deposit as soon as possible to secure a private room. 5. Set up a payment plan with the Business Office
If financial aid does not cover all your expenses or you are not receiving financial aid, email Dwayne Breeding in the Business Office or call him at 615.277.7436 to set up a payment plan.

6. Request final transcripts
Contact your school and ask them to send to the Admissions Office at Watkins your official transcripts, which include your final grades as well as your graduation date. If you are a transfer student, ask your previous institution to send a final transcript once grades have been posted. 

7. Make sure we have an official copy of any AP or IB test scores
If you took Advanced Placement or International Baccalaureate tests, arrange to get us a copy of the results so that we can give you any college credit earned. Find out how to send test results.

8. Connect with your roommates
The residence life staff at Watkins will send you the contact information for each of your housemates. Although you likely will have your own bedroom, you will be sharing living, dining, and kitchen space. Coordinate with your housemates so that you don’t each bring a set of pots and pans, for example. Here’s a handy “Packing for Campus” checklist.

  • Calendar
    The academic calendar enables you to review the entire school year at a glance. Enter deadlines, holidays, and school vacations into your own calendar now to avoid scheduling conflicts.
  • Connections
    The Admissions Office at Watkins is your primary point of contact before you arrive on campus. Email us with any questions you might have or call us at 615.277.2718.   • Accessibility
    If you have been diagnosed with a disability, you may be entitled to reasonable accommodations by your instructors. Visit the accessibility services page for further information, and contact the Office of Student Life to develop a plan for the semester.
  • Email
    After you have submitted your $300 enrollment deposit, you will receive notification of your new Watkins email address, which is essential to your Watkins life. Everyone within our community—faculty, staff, and students—will communicate with you via your Watkins email address.
  • Health insurance
    Need health insurance? We’re happy to provide information about The Sentry Student Security Plan. Get in touch with the Office of Student Life for information.
  • Meals
    Watkins does not offer a meal plan, but Zulema’s Kitchen in the Cecy Reed Student Center serves a variety of flavorful fare, including sandwiches, soups, salads, and savory baked treats, including gluten-free and vegetarian selections. And, of course, all the residence apartments have fully-equipped kitchens.
  • Orientation & student ID
    Orientation, which is mandatory for all new students, takes place just before classes begin. Orientation is your best introduction to life on campus and to your creative journey at Watkins. You also will meet your advisor, register for classes, and receive your Student ID. Check your Watkins email box and visit the Orientation page for more information— and be sure to put the date on your calendar.
  • Register
    At Orientation, you will consult with your advisor, work out the courses you should be taking, and register for classes.
